The first thing you notice when you enter Zuidbroek’s Van der Valk hotel? The stylish, voluptuous curves. Even the handrails that line the impressive steps leading to the entrance are coiled and curled. And ever since Maarten Gloudemans, relationship manager at Techval, fitted the steps with LED strips, guests have been wowed.

From no effect to wow effect

“The steps are the first thing you see when you approach the hotel or your taxi drives up the ramp. It’s a beautiful, playful entrance that feels grand and regal,” Maarten explains, “but visibility in the dark was sub-par. To keep their guests safe and enhance the hotel’s aesthetics, they decided to improve the lighting.”

“We opted for COB LED strips to produce a uniform light scene. The challenge was to make the LED strips as inconspicuous as possible, blending them into the stone background. However, we just didn’t like the look of white channels set against weathered bricks, so we ordered untreated LED strips from Tronix and sprayed them in exactly the right colour. The customer’s reaction? They’re amazed by the world of difference: the entrance has gone from no effect to wow effect.”
